Adam Lambert on American Idol as Mentor
Adam Lambert on American Idol as Mentor: It is truly remarkable to see what Adam Lambert has accomplished in such a short period of time. No more than a couple of years ago few even knew who the eccentric rocker was. Now, the season 8 runner-up has made history on American Idol becoming the first prior contestant to ever act as a guest mentor.
Lambert served as guest mentor to the contestants of Season 9 to offer words of wisdom and advice to wow the judges, and America, in April 13’s episode. As expected, he delivered sound advice that many of the contestants really took to heart and applied to their performances.
He pushed many to come out of their shells and unleash a memorable performance. It was as if a number of the contestants were holding back and have been afraid to really belt it out. Fortunately, they took in what he had to say and delivered performances like none other thus far this season.
It is truly remarkable to think that just a year ago Adam Lambert himself was standing on the stage singing to America and attempting to win over the judges. Now, he is in the recording studio producing hit songs that are on the radio, on iTunes, and on many fans’ iPods. This is a sign of someone that truly has made it after American Idol.
For some, it may seem rather odd to have someone who has been in the industry for just a year act as a mentor. After all, how much experience could he have after just a single year? When you think of some of the greats who have acted as mentors over the years, it is perplexing for some to think Adam Lambert deserves to be a mentor this early into his career.
On the other hand, it makes perfect sense considering the fact that he is someone that went through the grueling process of American Idol. He experienced the ups and downs first-hand and understands what the contestants are going through. Because of this, he is the perfect option for someone who can provide true feedback and honest suggestions to excel in the competition.
While the contestants were very much appreciative of the advice and help he provided, Adam Lambert Ameican Idol followed up his mentoring with a stunning performance on the results show. As expected, he performed his current single “Whattaya Want From Me” to a magnificent set with lasers, smoke and all. There is no question Adam felt at home with his return to the American Idol stage.

Prior to Adam’s announcement of his sexuality, Adam Lambert had fans crazed over his impeccable talent. Since then, there has been much controversy and talk about Adam coming out. He was not shy in expressing himself with a sexually-charged performance at the American Music Awards, that is for sure.
Lambert simulated oral sex with a back-up dancer and then passionately kiss a male keyboard player on the mouth in front of millions of viewers.
According to Lambert, he had not intentions other than “to promote freedom of expression and artistic freedom.” ABC cut him rubbing the face of a male dancer in his crotch from the U.S. West Coast that was not live.
Many were beginning to forget about the speculative incident between Madonna and Britney Spears when they kissed on the MTV Video Music Awards show in 2003. This incident may have brought back memories and is already on its way to being one of the more provocative TV moments in the music industry.
As expected, the performance of his new single “For Your Entertainment” was in the top 10 most popular topics on Twitter the next day. The largest telecast audience since 2002, 14.2 million viewers, got to see the whole performance from their television sets.
Lambert fired back saying his act with dancers was no different from anything you would see from female pop singers who often have erotic performances. The American Music Awards producers said acts were not expected and Lambert said a lot of the sexual energy was “in the moment.”
The Federal Communications Commission fined CBS for $550,000 for broadcasting the quick glimpse of Janet Jackson’s breast during the 2004 Super Bowl half-time show. For now, the FCC did not say anything regarding complaints that had been received. Lambert’s performance was broadcast around 11 pm in most of the nation which is outside the FCC’s 6am-10pm time frame that prohibits showing indecent material.
This was certainly Lambert’s first major TV outing since the “American Idol” show. While on “American Idol” he quickly became the most popular contestant with incredible talent and a great deal of pizzazz and showmanship.
Entertainment Weekly music reporter Michael Slezak believes this was nothing more than a planned act to “dominate the post-AMA blogosphere/water-cooler discussion.” One thing is for sure; he is certainly dominating the post-AMA talk.
Adam Lambert has been in the news quite frequently since the end of “American Idol.” For the most part it has been all positive including the release of his debut album titled “For Your Entertainment.” While Lambert feels his performance was nothing more than any other female pop-star, only time will tell what the FCC felt about the sexually-charged act. Whatever comes of this, Adam Lambert will have a great career as he is a phenomenal entertainer. “For Your Entertainment” is a great album!
